DIY Cheese Tray

Great gift idea for friends and family who like to entertain!

I came up with a slightly changed version of the chalkboard tray I have seen on "Shanty to chic" (http://www.shanty-2-chic.com/2016/08/diy-chalkboard-serving-tray-tutorial-youtube-video.html

I think it is even easier this way :-) but to be honest, this was actually the result of a messed up board after finding out that spraying the stained board (and even finishing it with one coat of wipe on poly) with chalkboard spray did not work at all. Although using Frog Tape, the chalkboard spray paint was bleeding thru and it looked terrible :-( Okay...try and error....

I bought some (already chalk painted) wood cutouts from Michaels and glued them to the board (using liquid nails). I also found very reasonably priced grab handles (under $2.00 per piece) at Home Hardware and screwed them to the board. The board has been painted with Minwax Wood Finish Classic Gray, followed by one quick coat of Minwax Wipe-On Poly.

Couldn't be easier, right? Highly recommended: buy a Chalk Writer Pen (wet erasable, smudge and dust free).

What I actually like about this tray is that you can also use it for so much more than just cheese. Antipasti, Dips - you name it! Or using Mason Jars instead of little bowls and having cutlery and napkins in it....
