I re-staged the set a couple weeks later (after finishing the matching Coffee table) and sold the entire set within a few hours:
May 2017 - Mid Century Modern Dresser: I can hardly believe it, BUT I forgot to take a "Before" pic...realized it after painting the first coat on :-(
I LOVE MCM furniture - classy and timeless beauties. This particular piece had a glossy dark walnut finish. I cleaned it, used my new favorite deglosser (Krud Kutters) and (very) lightly hand sanded it. Painted it with three coats of Beauti-Tone Designer Series Cabinet & Furniture Paint (color: BEHR Park Avenue). Fusion Mineral Paint (Ash) has been used to paint the inside of the drawers and part of the legs have been spray painted in Rustoleum Nickel Antique Mat. New hardware.
April 2017 - Nightstands: My latest auction find - very heavy and well-made (oak) nightstands. I used a deglosser and sanded the top with my B&D mouse sander. Painted with Fusion Mineral Paint (color: little lamb) - top stained with Saman One Step Stain (color: coffee). The Saman One Step Stain has a built-in varnish/top coat - a huge time saver. I do not like the very glossy look though and therefore decided to put a coat of Minwax finishing paste on top to give it more of a hand rubbed, natural look and to match the Fusion Mineral Paint's flat finish. Pull handles have been spray painted with Rustoleums Rubbed Bronze.
April 2017 - Set of side tables: Deglossed and chalk painted (Color: one of my favorite BEHR colors WELDED IRON), topcoated with 2 coats of non-yellowing Acrylic polyurethane wood finish (Beauti-tone Wood Shield). Also changed the golden hardware to brand new shiny black centre cup/bin pulls.
March 2017 - 2-Tier Drawer: Loved the unique shape, disliked the pull handles. Deglossed and chalk painted (Color: BEHR Welded Iron). Waxed with Minwax Pasting Wax and replaced the handles to give it a more contemporary look. My tip: remove any excess wax quickly after its applied with a clean rag. Let the wax sit for 15-30 minutes and then use SUPER FINE STEEL WOOL to lightly buff it. This little trick actually was a huge game changer for me. I used to only buff within 10 minutes with a lint free cloth (according to the directions on the can) and the result were "okay"...The steel wool instead gives you a super smooth finish and evens out any imperfections. The soft sheen you obtain is close to perfection :-) After I am done with the steel wool treatment I polish with a microfiber polishing cloth (the one you use to polish glass etc.).
February 2017 - Corner TV Stand: this was the dirtiest and smelliest Kijiji find of all times :-( cleaned with TSP, deglossed with liquid sander and painted with Fusion Mineral Paint (color: Putty). Looks brand new AND the smell is completely gone :-)
February 2017 - Stained Coffee Table: So far one of my most favorite transformations :-) I bought this coffee table for a few bucks, it was in terrible shape, covered with stains and dings...it took me more than 4 hours to strip and sand the ugly duckling....Stained in a nice and dark grey (Saman water-based stain / Color: Castle Stone) and sealed with 5 coats of non-yellowing Acrylic polyurethane wood finish (Beauti-tone Wood Shield). The metal legs have been spray painted in Rustoleum Rubbed Bronze.
January 2017: This old chest has been chalk painted in charcoal gray, sealed with wipe on poly, hardware spray painted in rubbed bronze. I also upholstered the top with some extra thick batting and great IKEA fabric.
